A man has been jailed for 13 years for stabbing a 22-year-old man in a fatal attack that was sparked by a Twitter row.
Babafemi Junaid was stabbed in the heart and collapsed after his car crashed into a
bus while he was trying to escape the scene in Stockwell, south London. He died shortly after due to his wounds.
Evan Edwards, 20, was holding a knife and was part of a group of 11, which targeted the 22-year-old on February 7 last year. Two other men were found guilty of violent disorder while eight others were acquitted or released without charge.
Edwards, from Brixton, admitted manslaughter earlier this year. The Old Bailey heard the feud began on Twitter between Kirk Reid, 18, and one of Mr Juneid’s friends.
The night before Mr Juneid was attacked, his girlfriend told him to stop ‘this Twitter s**t’ and a friend asked Reid if the Twitter ‘beef’ was real.
The fight kicked off on a bus in Stockwell and spilled onto the road where Mr Juneid had arrived to pick someone up. While he was walking away, the group started chasing him and he was stabbed.
He attempted to get back in his car, but crashed into a bus as he tried to drive away. Mr Juneid’s attackers then opened his car doors and began brutally punching and kicking him.
Judge Stephen Kramer QC told Edwards: ‘It is clear those responsible for the death of Babafemi Junaid have deprived a father and family of a much loved son and family member.
‘You were part of a group attack and were armed with a knife you had brought to the scene and took out.’
