Henry Close To Arsenal Coaching Role



Thierry Henry has dropped the biggest hint yet that a return to Arsenal could be his next step.

The New York Red Bulls star, who could play his final game in MLS on Saturday in the second leg of the Eastern Conference final against the New England Revolution, is widely believed to be retiring from playing soccer when his 2014 MLS season is over.

The contenders for this year’s FIFA Ballon d’Or award for the best player of 2014 and for the FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year 2014 award were announced today on FIFA.com.

In alphabetical order, the FIFA Ballon d’Or nominees are: Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Lionel Messi (Argentina) and Manuel Neuer (Germany), while Nadine Kessler (Germany), Marta (Brazil) and Abby Wambach (USA) will contest the women’s award.

Algeria’s Brahimi Wins BBC African Footballer Of The Year



Algeria’s Yacine Brahimi has been voted the BBC African Footballer of the Year 2014.

The 24-year-old midfielder becomes the first Algerian to win the award, which is decided by football fans.

Porto winger Brahimi told BBC Sport: "It’s a big honour for me to receive this wonderful trophy. I owe it to my country, Algeria, and to all the people who voted for me.

Buhari - I’ll end insurgency if elected President – Buhari



A former Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has promised to end insurgency and other forms of insecurity in the country, if elected President under the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the 2015 general elections.

The pledge is coming amidst rising insurgency by the Boko Haram Islamic sect in the North-East and especially the Friday’s attack on Kano Central Mosque.

LAGOS—Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, has commissioned the Lagos Skipper Engineering Academy at the Government Technical College, Ikotun.

The academy which is designed to provide all round instruction with a curriculum that is aligned to the current needs of the industry, entrepreneurship and further education, is the outcome of a collaboration between the Lagos Eko Project, Lagos State Electricity Board, LASTVEB and Skipper Limited. It will complement the current three-year technical education carried out across Lagos State Technical Colleges by focusing on both practical and theoretical training relevant to current industrial and domestic needs.
