LAGOS—Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, has commissioned the Lagos Skipper Engineering Academy at the Government Technical College, Ikotun.
The academy which is designed to provide all round instruction with a curriculum that is aligned to the current needs of the industry, entrepreneurship and further education, is the outcome of a collaboration between the Lagos Eko Project, Lagos State Electricity Board, LASTVEB and Skipper Limited. It will complement the current three-year technical education carried out across Lagos State Technical Colleges by focusing on both practical and theoretical training relevant to current industrial and domestic needs.
In his remark, the Governor lauded the effort of the Skipper group; its ability to keep to time in completing the project and stated that a piece of land had been given to the Skipper group at Ikorodu with a promise to generate 155 megawatts of power.
Special Adviser to the Lagos State Government on Eko project, Ms Ronke Azeez, stated that the Academy would increase the quality of the programmes offered at the Government Technical College. She noted that over the years, adequate facilities have not been provided for those taking technical or electrical related courses and that with the arrival of the Lagos Skipper Engineering Academy, things were bound to change for the better.
Group President, Skipper Group, Jitender Sachdeva said that the quality of students that will be produced from the academy would be able to compete with technocrats around the world. He also stated that the academy would endeavour to train people who would in turn train others in the art of technology.
