The New York Red Bulls star, who could play his final game in MLS on Saturday in the second leg of the Eastern Conference final against the New England Revolution, is widely believed to be retiring from playing soccer when his 2014 MLS season is over.
However when speaking to French outlet L’Equipe, and following on from Arsene Wenger’s comments about Henry potentially becoming a coach at Arsenal, the Gunners legend admitted he wants to help his old team win a UEFA Champions League title.
"Nothing is clear," Henry said. "I have not taken any decision and speculation is not my thing. One thing is certain: I will stay in football, as a coach, a consultant or executive. We will see. The second certainty is that I would love to see Arsenal win the Champions League. Whether that is from near or far does not depend on me but it is sure I’d like to help. This is my club and, as a player, I was not able to give them the Champions League."
Arsenal’s all-time leading goalscorer is a hero at the Emirates Stadium and we have seen that in two loan stints over the past few years while he has played for New York. So, we will just have to wait and see what Henry decides to do at the end of the MLS season which could be this weekend, or it could arrive on Dec. 7 if the Red Bulls make the MLS Cup final.
One thing is for sure, the 37-year-old will have plenty of options to ponder over the coming weeks and months.
